Memorial Sconse Car Accident

A tree fell on a mans car and killed him, his partner gave me some of the rotten poplar tree that fell on his car in New Hampshire. She gave me artistic license to make something she could keep dear to remember him. By adding the element of light I hoped to illuminate the wood and relieve some of the gloom that comes with a sudden death that wasn't rotten bark on a mantle.

Sconse that was made from a tree that fell on a clients loved ones car.

This is a work in progress. It was made from an old pine rootball pulled from a dried up marsh in Colorado. I passed the wood onto Bert Poling, a very talented wood turner, after he finished with it I grinned and sculpted it further down to a fine polish. The gloss on it is its own sap buffed so hard that it heated up the rich sappy wood and left a high gloss. The center is a cross cut sugar pine cone. It mounts on a wall in three seperate pieces it's 30 inches.
