Space Flower

This is a work in progress. It was made from an old pine rootball pulled from a dried up marsh in Colorado. I passed the wood onto Bert Poling, a very talented wood turner, after he finished with it I grinned and sculpted it further down to a fine polish. The gloss on it is its own sap buffed so hard that it heated up the rich sappy wood and left a high gloss. The center is a the center of a cross cut sugar pine cone.

Memorial Sconse Car Accident

Sconse that was made from a tree that fell on a clients loved ones car.

Tangled Roots

I discovered this tangled root mass in North Woodstock NH after a major flood eroded all the soil near the river in a dense forest. They tangle together in such a beautiful balanced way, it's one of my earliest pieces and favorite. The wood is cherry, white birch, yellow birch and white oak. Aspen Chairs

I collect 'J' shaped aspen trees from steep hillsides and fashion my chairs out of the unique material. They are very strong as are all my pieces due to the attention to the hand carved mortise and tenon joinery.

Spiral Hemlock Birch Cherry Lamp

This lamp was made from four types of wood; white birch and cherry for the lamp shade, hemlock base and the rings of the lamp were white pine. The white pine rings that make up the structure of the lampshade were perfect "U"'s after regrowth from being cut down to the ground. I would walk power lines looking for these anomalies. The cherry bark lampshade section is transparent and glows red! The base is a hemlock tree that was choked out by oriental choking vine.

Burl Sample Railing

This is a sample railing I built for a log cabin show room. The burls are from NH. I don't use wood glue or hardware, the mortise and tenons are hand carved and pulled into place with strong ratchet straps. The burls are caused by inflammation of the bark and are very rare. The bark when inflamed by the blight grows thick like grapefruit skin and transcribes into wood at the end of the season.
